ME MELLICAN MAN - A PIGTAIL RAG
(1913) - This rag was written for guitar in 1913 by A. J. Weidt and first appeared in the magazine "Cadenza" which was published in Boston, Massachusetts between 1894 and 1924. Mr. Weidt is said to have contributed a number of pieces to this magazine including one entitled "Cold Molasses Rag"

COLORED GUARDS, THE
1903 by Weidt & Walter Jacobs. Another fine composition by AJ Weidt. A special thanks to Fred Miller, an ABF member, for preparing the MIDI file presented here.

KALOOLA
A nice little number that was published in 1905 by Walter Jacobs, Boston, MA. AJ Weidt was born in Buffalo, NY and had begun the study of the violin at the age of eight. In 1908 he was actively teaching and directing several fretted instrument clubs in Newark, NJ. Weidt's pieces are, typically, very well composed and fairly easy to play.

KOONVILLE KOONLETS
1899 - As in many compositions of the era this piece is listed as a characteristic cakewalk and two-step march. The quote points out that the popular music of the era could be used in various styles and the dancers would do the dance step that suited them. The piece uses the cakewalk rhythm and is written in the musical form of a marc, the form that was used in early ragtime. The melody is simple and like most cakewalks it is charming and easily remembered.

SWEET CORN
1908 or 1923

YANKEE DANDY
a catchy selection by AJ Weidt & Walter Jacobs

ONION RAG: A BERMUDA ESSENCE
Up-tempo rag scored for xylophone, marimba (two players - one instrument) and drum set. Can be opened up for extended drum solo, all mallet parts require three mallets.

FLYING CLOUD

RED ROVER MARCH
simple but very effective composition (recorded by Fred Determann's father & "The New Criterion Banjo Orchestra") on the CD: "A Banjo Oddity", Hal Allert was the orchestra leader
